Welcome to my corner of Medium! With over 16 years of experience in Quantitative Investment Management, Data Science, and Business Analytics, I lead AI & Data Analytics at a cutting-edge global startup. My focus includes AI/ML strategies in the financial and education sectors, LLM models, and building scalable systems for small and medium-sized companies. As a former lead portfolio manager📈, I successfully managed $1.6bn in multi-asset and hedge fund strategies, earning top ratings on Morningstar for several years—a time that I find incredibly valuable entering the new era of AI. Born and raised in Germany, my journey spans years in investment banking and the military, where I was instilled with the well-known German traits of precision, directness, and efficiency. Since moving to the USA about 10 years ago to deepen my academic exposure and studies at Stanford🌲, I have combined these traits with innovation, a deeper appreciation for diversity, and a sprinkle of empathy that almost makes me human. 😉🤖
My interests include working with startups across various industries, especially finance, real estate, and education. Being a professor 🎓at a top California university, teaching all things data-related to undergraduate and master students, and mentoring over 120 professionals in data analytics and finance havee allowed me to give back some of my experience while learning a lot about myself.
I'm fortunate to share my life with a wonderful person who shares my passion and cares about my health and the health of others. As a practicing doctor, she introduced me to a new passion for data challenges in healthcare. So let's see what comes from that 😉 Outside of work and my passion for coding and building, I enjoy riding my sports motorcycle and traveling. There's nothing better than taking my BMW RR1000 through the California mountains or the German Autobahn.🏍️
Inspired by my former students to bring some of my lectures to paper (and maybe video one day), I started this blog with a few simpler topics until I get the hang of it and start scaling. After getting to 1500 followers, several of you reached out, provided feedback, or offered collaboration. Thank you!
